The other day I visited the unique Amsterdam location – hotel Droog. I got the opportunity to know design collection produced by Droog better, to inspect all the spaces and even get into the only hotel room.
Droog is a design company based in Amsterdam. Droog has worked with Marcel Wanders, Hella Jongerius, Tejo Remy, Richard Hutten, Ed Annink, Jurgen Bey and Joris Laarman and other designers.
The Droog brand was founded in 1993 by Gijs Bakker and Renny Ramakers during the Milano Salone del Mobile. Then they presented a design collection called “Droog Design” (droog in Dutch “dry”) because of the simplicity and dry humor of the objects.
Hotel Droog is located in the center of Amsterdam in a 17th-century building with a rich historical background, it is the cultural home of the design company Droog, a company that creates concepts, products, interiors, identities, architecture, exhibitions and more.
And now I want to show how this conceptual space looks from within.
There are shops on the ground floor of the hotel Droog – you can buy here designer pieces (some of them looks very quirky), fashion items, accessories and books.
I like this Milk bottle lamp by Tejo Remy and Bottoms up doorbell by Peter van der Jagt.
In Café Droog you are surrounded by all those things that you can buy in a store on the ground floor. Here the principle – “try before you buy” works.
The inner courtyard of the hotel is filled with light white space, which is ideal for companies presentations, photo sessions and meetings. Flying above blue birds creates an outdoor feeling.
The shelves in the library are filled with unwritten books. You can try to write something yourself.
The hotel buildings surround the Fairy Garden, designed by Claude Pasquer and Corinne Détroyat. Here you can relax in silence right in the heart of the city. A truly magical place with a giant mushroom in the corner is great for photo shoots.
And, finally, One and Only Bedroom. The room is located in the penthouse and includes a bedroom, a living-dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom and magnificent views of the city. Here you can feel what it’s like to live surrounded by all these designer pieces.
Look at these bent tiles on the kitchen island. What a cool idea, really no one thought of that before?! The technology for producing such tiles is very difficult.
You can not just spend the night in hotel Droog, but to get a living experience among all these unusual design concepts and things.
But even if you do not spend the night in this unusual hotel, you can get new impressions and inspiration just by going to this wonderful place while strolling in the center of Amsterdam.
